Robert A. Knight, Jr. - Pastor
E-mail Robert A.

Pastor Knight is a native of Gary, Indiana. He moved to Ames, Iowa, in 1980 to pursue a college education.  He gave his life to Christ in August 1995 after a long period of living and serving the world (sin).  He was at a critical point in his life when Jesus reached out to him to come and serve Him instead of serving the world.  Led by the Lord, Pastor Knight had assumed many roles in the church as finance chair, choir member, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and minister.

He grew under the training of Pastor Terrence Shane at Friendship Baptist Church and had the privilege of being called to preach the gospel as the last preacher licensed by him. Pastor Shane is now home with the Lord.

Pastor Knight was a member of Friendship Baptist Church when he was called to serve as interim Pastor at New Birth Baptist Church of Ames on August 19, 2007.  After a four-month period, New Birth called Pastor Knight to become its permanent pastor.  He was ordained on January 5, 2008.

Pastor Knight has been married for 25 years to Alesia Whitney-Knight. They have a son and daughter, Devin and Victoria.

Pastor Knight's Statement of Belief
I believe in the Holy Trinity, which is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I also believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God divinely inspired by God and written by men. That this beautiful Holy Word is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, or correction and for instruction in righteousness. And for this cause, I believe that I have been called, chosen, and picked by God to tell people of this world about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  To preach life (in Jesus Christ) to a sinful world and tell them that they do not have to live this way.  I must tell the people that there is a better way through Jesus Christ.  I am His slave and I am willing to do whatever He tells me no matter the personal consequences.

The Bible declares, which I believe, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God" Romans 3:23

I believe that my God is a jealous God. We are to serve Him alone and we  should serve no one above Him. Exodus 20:5

I believe that my God at a time He decides will return to judge this world. The dead in Christ shall rise first and we that are alive and remain shall be caught up in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

I know that God took me from a life that was leading directly to death. He quickly turned me around and rebirthed me.  He put His word in my heart, branded me as His and now only now am I fully ready to serve Him.

Psalm 40:16-17 (New King James Version)
16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
         Let such as love Your salvation say continually,
         “The LORD be magnified!”
 17 But I am poor and needy;
         Yet the LORD thinks upon me.
         You are my help and my deliverer;
         Do not delay, O my God.

Romans 1:16-17 (New King James Version)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Revelation 7:12 (New King James Version)
12 saying:
      “ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
      Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
      Be to our God forever and ever.
      Amen.”
